Party at the Scoble's!

Sat, Oct 4, 2003 I just got back from a house warming party at Robert and Maryam Scoble's.  The have a great new house and the party  was a lot of fun.  The food was amazing! I don't think I'll be able to eat for days.

Tue, Sep 30, 2003 My guinea pig died yesterday.  We got home from our trip and picked her up from the friend that was taking care of her.  She was old (almost 7!) and it was probably just her time.  Rachel and I like to think that she waited until we got back to give up.  We spent all yesterday crying and dealing with it.  I know that it seems silly to cry over a guinea pig, but she was a very sweet pet and we loved her.

Back from vacation

Tue, Sep 30, 2003

I'm back from vacation and catching up.  We picked up a new car at the factory in South Carolina and drove it back.  We did a ton of different stuff along the way.

I got some great images at Yellowstone and I'll try to get some up soon.

Office Patches

Thu, Sep 4, 2003

So I saw the news items about the new security issues in Office and went to update my home install via office update.  Unfortunately you need office SP2 to install the patches and you need your original install media to install SP2.  I just moved.  I have no idea where the original media is.  How many people out there are in the same boat?  What if someone (gasp) pirated their copy of Office?

Requiring original media to install security updates seems like a bad plan to me.

DSL woes

Sat, Aug 30, 2003 Well, it turns out that in my new house I can only get 256kbs up and 256kbs down.  In the old place I was getting 640kbs up and 256kbs down.  I guess I'm just too far from the CO.  My choices are to (a) suck it up, (b) go with a cable modem and their onerous terms of service or (c) shell out big bucks for a business class line.  So far (a) is looking good but I'm not happy about it.

New House!

Sat, Aug 30, 2003

Well, I'm moved in to my new house.  The DSL is hooked up and we are starting to unpack.

I need to change the ICBM coords for geourl, along with 10 thousand other things to do when starting out in a new house!

DSLR for < $1000?

Wed, Aug 20, 2003

Canon just announced the new 300D.  The camera itself is ugly, and it is an annoying all flash site, but it looks like this could bust things open.  Current prices for DSLRs (the 10D) is around $1350.  Dropping this below $1000 could really expand the market.

I'm just waiting to read some reviews and see how this is positioned relative to the 10D.  Reiner and Alice (Reiner is a personality in the NT world) just got a 10D and I was playing with it the other day.  It just feels more solid than my D60.  I hope that the 10D feels the same way, even though it is covered with chrome crap (like the Elan IIe film camera I started with).

Thanks!

Tue, Aug 19, 2003 Thanks to Chris and Scoble for linking to me for our job opening.  I should be clear, the job is not working for me (I gave up all of my reports when I moved out to Boise for a while) but is for working on the Longhorn graphics team.  The job is to help develop APIs and functionality at one level above DX.  If you have any questions, please post a comment (if haloscan is up) or drop me a line at "Eightyprecent at Bedafamily.com".
