Ticking clock

Tue, Jan 14, 2003 The clock is ticking.  I have 25 days to write a replacement for Radio.  I'm not going to pay for this POS that doesn't work.

Michael says I made him do it.

Well, ChrisAn made me do it.

BTW, Michael, blogger supposedly does let you post via email.  So does Radio, but Radio generally doesn't work for me.

What was kodak thinking?

Check out the sample images from Kodaks (twice delayed) 14 megapixel DSLR, the DSC-14n.

Now check out the samples from the Canon 1Ds.

These pictures are both from the manufacturers served from their websites.  Is Kodak really going to sell any of these things?

I didn't get off my ass and create my own system yet so I'm still using Radio. As long as I keep things simple I only have to shut it down once per entry.  I did do a little bit of work on my RSS Aggregator.  It is starting to look like a real program.  Sometime over the next week Dare and I are going to get together and merge codebases.

Gerhard and Angela came over tonight and we made dinner.  We did a recipe out of the Alton Brown cookbook.  I really like this book and Alton's show, Good Eats.  We did the "Chicken Piccata" on page 170 and it turned out pretty good.  For desert we made a something from one of his shows: Spicy Pineapple Sauce.  That turned out well also.

The spicy pineapple sauce calls for a finely minced habanero pepper.  I did the mincing and about an hour latter I rubbed my eye.  The searing pain could only be stopped with prolonged dunking of my head under the sink.  Where is one of those eye wash things from chemistry class when you need them?  I've learned my lesson -- always wear gloves when dealing with hot peppers.

Radio sucks...

Radio just doesn't work.  There are some serious bugs that aren't being addressed.  I'd update here a lot more often if I didn't have to restart radio 3 times to get stuff to update.

I'm going to roll my own solution for this.  Stay tuned.

Red Herring: Baby Bells cry foul

I was having a conversation about this stuff with Michael Winser (when are you going to start one of these blog thingys?).  He is a happy user of Vonage and is working on trying out some of the other services.  His comment was that these VoIP solutions will be too successful and the phone companies will try to regulate them out of business.

Let the fun begin...

I've finally beaten radio into submission and have it uploading to my domain.

It uploads in batches of 25 files and for some reason was stalling and taking forever.  After tweaking stuff to try to take care of the staling problem it looks like it might be working now...

In the end I ended up debugging through the very strange scripting language that they use.  It is a wacky mix between a really primitive intentional programming (with the outlining) and pascal.  The environment for editing and debugging this stuff just seems arcane.  This just screams for .Net....

.Net killed the Radio star..
